Starting this Friday, every Five and a Fade pick goes head to head with the side most of the betting public is on, and we keep score all season. Me against the crowd. Every week.
The whole idea behind the fade is that the crowd gets it wrong. So let’s stop saying it and start counting it. Not just on the fade, on every pick.
Here’s how it works. Friday, you get the matchup card: my side against the side most bettors are on. Tuesday, the results. The running season score lives on the Record page, right next to my wins and my losses, because every result stays up there.
First test is a big one. This week’s fade is Minnesota at Indiana, Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Central on CBS. When I wrote the college Five and a Fade, 88% of the bets were on Minnesota +19.5. I’m laying the 19.5 with 7-1 Indiana against 5-2 Minnesota. The crowd thinks that’s too many points. I think the crowd hasn’t watched Indiana.
Fair warning: my NFL record sits at 3-10, so the public might be the favorite in this thing. If the crowd beats me, I’ll tell you. Loudly. Probably while wearing something I regret.
