Tennessee’s DeSean Bishop leads the SEC in rushing with 957 yards, and he’s 6 yards behind Boise State’s Dylan Riley for the national lead. Six yards. One decent carry.

Bishop has done it the hard way: 171 carries, 11 touchdowns, 119.6 yards a game. His lead over Missouri’s Jamal Roberts in the conference race is 90 yards.

Our pick
I’ll be straight with you: Riley is the favorite for the national title. He’s averaging 137.6 yards a game, Tennessee is off this week, and Riley gets Texas State (and the country’s No. 4 rusher, Torrance Burgess Jr.) this weekend. He could be up 100-plus by Sunday.
But the SEC title is Bishop’s. He’s 90 yards clear with Kentucky coming to Neyland on Nov. 7, and nobody behind him is closing fast. Leading the toughest conference in the country in rushing is the better trophy anyway. Fight me.
The NFL race: still 3 yards
Nothing moved since our NFL rushing post: Bijan Robinson has 704, Kenneth Walker III has 701 in one fewer game.
- Bijan Robinson, Falcons: 704 (7 games)
- Kenneth Walker III, Chiefs: 701 (6 games)
- James Cook III, Bills: 627 (6 games)
- Jahmyr Gibbs, Lions: 620 (6 games)
- Jonathan Taylor, Colts: 587 (7 games)

We’re still taking Walker: 116.8 yards a game to Bijan’s 100.6, with a game in hand. Walker’s Chiefs visit Denver this weekend; Bijan’s Falcons are at Tampa Bay.
