Our first NFL Power 10 is here, and the Minnesota Vikings are No. 1 at 6-0. The 49ers and Bills are right behind them, and the Chiefs stay in the top five after their first loss.
Records and points are from ESPN’s standings through Week 7. The order is ours.
1. Minnesota Vikings (6-0)
The only unbeaten team left, and the defense has allowed 74 points in six games, the fewest in the league. Until somebody beats them, they sit here.
2. San Francisco 49ers (6-1)
197 points, tied for the most in the NFL. One loss and an offense nobody has slowed down for long.
3. Buffalo Bills (5-1)
Also at 197 points. The catch: they’ve given up 171. Every Bills game is a shootout, and so far they keep winning them.
4. Kansas City Chiefs (5-1)
Sunday’s 20-3 loss in Seattle was ugly, but they’ve still allowed just 103 points. One bad afternoon doesn’t drop them out of the top five.
5. Chicago Bears (5-2)
Two straight wins and 180 points scored. Yes, the Bears. Get used to it.
6. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2)
Three straight wins. The computers like them this week too, and so do we (see our NFL Week 8 picks).
7. Denver Broncos (5-2)
Three in a row. Nobody is talking about Denver, which is exactly how they seem to like it.
8. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2)
104 points allowed, third-fewest in the league. The defense is legit.
9. Cincinnati Bengals (4-2)
Two straight wins and 163 points. Right on time.
10. Detroit Lions (4-2)
184 points, fourth-most in the NFL. Two games behind Minnesota, and we’re still taking the Lions to win the NFC North.
Too high? Too low? The Lions at 10 is going to make somebody mad. Tell us who we got wrong.
