What We’re Watching Tuesday: The CFP Committee’s First Rankings, and the Vols Tip Off

Five and a Fade card: What we're watching Tuesday, Nov. 3: Wofford at Tennessee men's basketball, the first College Football Playoff rankings, Ohio at Akron, Manhattan at Kentucky and Buffalo at Miami (OH)

Tuesday is the night the College Football Playoff committee finally shows its cards, and Tennessee basketball and two MACtion games get to frame it. All times Central.

  1. No. 8 Tennessee vs. Wofford, 5 p.m., SEC Network. The Vols’ men’s opener at Food City Center. Eighth in the AP poll. Take care of business and be in front of a TV by six.
  2. First CFP rankings, 6 p.m., ESPN. The one we’ve been waiting on. Two questions decide whether this committee is serious: Does 8-1 Indiana, with zero wins over AP Top 25 teams, land in the top four? And does 7-1 BYU finally go ahead of 7-1 Notre Dame, the team BYU beat 28-24? If résumés matter, both answers are easy. We’ll find out Tuesday if they do.
  3. Ohio at Akron, 6 p.m., ESPN2. Ohio is 6-2 and 4-0 in the MAC. Akron is 1-7. Background noise for the rankings show, and that’s fine.
  4. No. 23 Kentucky vs. Manhattan, 6 p.m., SEC Network+. Kentucky’s men’s opener. Kentucky football comes to Knoxville on Saturday, so consider this the first act of rivalry week.
  5. Buffalo at Miami (OH), 7 p.m., ESPN. Both 5-3, both 3-1 in the MAC. Tuesday-night MACtion with real stakes, and the best football game on the board.

No picks from us on Tuesday’s games. Right after the committee’s reveal, we release The Correct Top 10, here and on social.

Monday went our way: Florida handled Miami 77-67, and the Bears are real. Chicago won 34-17 in Seattle and is 6-2. Schedules, records and TV from ESPN.
