No. 2 Ohio State is at USC tonight at the Coliseum (6:30 p.m. Central, NBC), and this is our last pick of Halloween Saturday: Ohio State -7. That means we need the Buckeyes to win by 8 or more. Win by exactly 7 is a push, and anything less is a loss for us. Updates below, newest first.
Updates
- 3rd quarter, 2:27: USC 27, Ohio State 9. Not covering, and it’s slipping away. Ohio State fumbled, then USC freshman tight end Mark Bowman hurdled one defender and ran through another on a 70-yard catch-and-run to the 3, and King Miller punched it in from 1. We need the Buckeyes to win by 8, so it’s a 26-point swing with a quarter and change left. Brutal. Come on, Buckeyes.
- Halftime: USC 20, Ohio State 9. Not covering. USC’s Caden Chittenden hit a 36-yard field goal with one second left, so it’s an 11-point hole at the break. We need Ohio State to win by 8, which means a 19-point swing in the second half. Jeremiah Smith has five catches, and the Buckeyes need him to break one. Come on, Buckeyes.
- 2nd quarter, 1:46: USC 17, Ohio State 9. Still not covering. USC hit a 54-yard field goal to go up 17-6, then Ohio State drove all the way to the USC 1-yard line and had to settle for a 23-yard Connor Hawkins field goal. That’s three field goals and no touchdowns. We’re down 8 and need the Buckeyes up 8, so it’s still a 16-point swing. Field goals won’t get it done. Come on, Buckeyes.
- 2nd quarter, 11:42: USC 14, Ohio State 6. Still not covering. Connor Hawkins hit a 34-yard field goal early in the 2nd, so that’s two field goals and no touchdowns for Ohio State. We’re down 8 and need the Buckeyes up 8, so it’s a 16-point swing from here. Turn those threes into sevens, Buckeyes.
- 1st quarter, 0:56: USC 14, Ohio State 3. Not covering right now, and it’s not close. Trent Mosley took the very first play 69 yards for a USC touchdown, Ohio State answered with a 39-yard field goal, and Waymond Jordan punched in a 9-yarder to make it 14-3. That’s an 11-point hole and we need Ohio State up 8. Plenty of football left. Come on, Buckeyes.
Where the rest of Saturday’s card stands: Texas Tech -4, Duke -7.5 and Utah -6.5 covered. SMU -9.5 and the Fade, Indiana -19.5 vs. Minnesota, did not. Indiana won 23-16 in overtime. So we’re 3-2 heading into this one.
