Jordan Love is 31 yards behind Matthew Stafford for the NFL passing lead, and the Packers host Carolina tonight. Thirty-two yards and he’s No. 1. That’s one first-quarter drive.
The top five in passing yards through Week 7, per ESPN:
- Matthew Stafford, Rams: 1,989
- Jordan Love, Packers: 1,958
- Kirk Cousins, Raiders: 1,877
- C.J. Stroud, Texans: 1,867
- Dak Prescott, Cowboys: 1,851
Love has done it his way: 13 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, an 81-yard long, and a 60% completion rate that tells you he’s pushing the ball downfield instead of dinking it. The Packers are 4-3, Carolina is 3-3, and kickoff is 7:15 p.m. Central on Prime Video.
Now the catch. Love gets to play first, so he gets the lead first. Stafford answers Sunday when the 3-4 Rams host the Chargers. So tonight’s lead might be a rental.
And here’s the name nobody’s saying: Jared Goff. He’s at 1,788 yards in six games, which is 298 a game, the best average in the league. Everybody ahead of him has played seven. Give Goff his bye week back and he’s leading this race.
My call: Love takes the lead tonight, and Goff is the one holding it at Thanksgiving.
