Kirk Cousins Leads the NFL in Touchdown Passes for the 3-4 Raiders, and Nobody Saw It Coming

Kirk Cousins of the Las Vegas Raiders leads the NFL with 16 touchdown passes, ahead of Joe Burrow and Brock Purdy

The NFL leader in touchdown passes through seven games isn’t Joe Burrow, Brock Purdy or Jared Goff. It’s Kirk Cousins, with 16 for the 3-4 Las Vegas Raiders, per ESPN.

Burrow and Purdy are tied for second with 15. Matthew Stafford, Goff and Trevor Lawrence have 14.

  • Cousins: 161 of 257, 1,877 yards, 16 TD, 5 INT, 97.4 rating.
  • Burrow: 15 TD in six games, 110.4 rating.
  • Purdy: 15 TD, 110.1 rating, 8.3 yards per attempt.

Be honest: in August, how many of you had Kirk Cousins leading the league in anything except “most money made by a backup”? Not me. Now he’s the reason a 3-4 team is still in games.

My take: it won’t last. Burrow is a touchdown back with a game in hand, and Purdy is more efficient. But Kirk doesn’t care what I think. He’s got the Jets next, Sunday at noon Central, and that’s a chance to pad it. You like that?
