Jayson Tatum hit a 17-foot turnaround jumper as time expired in overtime, and the Boston Celtics beat the Brooklyn Nets 125-124 on Tuesday night. It capped a 40-point night.
Here’s how it ended. Boston trailed 124-123. Brooklyn’s Mikel Brown Jr. missed a layup with 2.3 seconds left, Paul George grabbed the rebound, and the Celtics called timeout. Derrick White found Tatum, Tatum turned, and the replay review upheld the bucket. Ballgame.
- Tatum: 40 points on 10-of-20 shooting, 18-of-22 at the line, 8 assists, 0 turnovers in 42 minutes
- George: 20 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists
- Nets: Michael Porter Jr. 27 points and 12 rebounds; Julius Randle 24 and 9
Brooklyn outscored Boston 35-31 in the fourth quarter to force overtime, then led by one with 2.3 seconds left in OT. They just couldn’t finish it.
Our take: Zero turnovers in 42 minutes with the ball in his hands all night is the stat I like most. That’s a guy running the whole show, not just hunting shots. And the Nets are 0-4, but nobody who watched this one should call them a free win. They’ve been in fights. They just keep losing them.
