Jaxon Smith-Njigba Is the NFL’s Best Receiver Right Now, and the Numbers Aren’t Close

Jaxon Smith-Njigba of the Seattle Seahawks leads the NFL with 867 receiving yards and 8 touchdown catches

Jaxon Smith-Njigba leads the NFL in receiving yards (867) and touchdown catches (8) through seven games, and the gap is getting silly: he’s 216 yards ahead of No. 2 CeeDee Lamb.

He added nine catches for 150 yards and a touchdown Sunday night as the Seahawks held Kansas City to a field goal in a 20-3 win. The Chiefs knew where the ball was going. Didn’t matter.

The numbers

  • 867 receiving yards, first in the NFL (CeeDee Lamb is second at 651)
  • 8 touchdown catches, first in the NFL (Lamb and Christian Watson have 6)
  • 58 catches on 78 targets, 14.9 yards per catch
  • 123.9 yards per game

So is he the best receiver in football right now? Our answer is yes, and it isn’t a hot take anymore. Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson have the résumés. Smith-Njigba has the 2026 tape, and right now nobody else is doing it every Sunday while being the first, second and third read in his offense.

The next test comes on a big stage: Chicago (5-2) visits Seattle (4-3) on Monday night, Nov. 2.
