The Milwaukee Brewers are one win from a World Series title after a 10-1 beatdown of the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3 on Monday night at Tropicana Field. Milwaukee leads the series 3-0.
This one was decided in the fifth inning. The Brewers led 2-0 and then sent the Rays to the bullpen and kept going: eight runs, all on singles and doubles, no home runs needed.
- Brice Turang: two-run infield single to make it 4-0
- Garrett Mitchell: RBI single
- Cooper Pratt: two-run double
- Sal Frelick: RBI double
- David Hamilton: RBI single
- Jackson Chourio: RBI double to cap it at 10-0
Robert Gasser did the rest. Six shutout innings, one hit, one walk, three strikeouts on 75 pitches. Tampa Bay finished with three hits all night and didn’t score until the ninth.
Chourio went 4-for-5 with two runs scored. William Contreras and Turang had three hits apiece. Milwaukee piled up 16 hits.
Our take: this isn’t a World Series right now, it’s a clinic. The Rays managed three hits in their own building, and now they have to win four straight against a lineup that just strung together six run-scoring hits in one inning. The brooms are out. Game 4 is tonight at 7 p.m. Central on Fox.
