NFL Five and a Fade, Week 6: Bad Offenses and Short Weeks

NFL Five and a Fade, Week 6: Bad Offenses and Short Weeks

The NFL edition of Five and a Fade debuted in Week 6, and it starts where it always will: with the Titans.

The five

1. Titans at Colts, under 44. I wasn’t going to bet on a team that was 0-5, last in the league in points and yards, and fresh off a 26-3 home loss to a winless Houston team. I also wasn’t laying a touchdown with a Colts offense that kept kicking field goals. One side can’t score and the other settles for three. Under.

2. Broncos +2.5 vs. Seahawks. Seattle on a short week, traveling to altitude, with a losing record against the spread. Denver at home, getting points. Easy.

3. Jaguars -2.5 vs. Texans in London. Beating the Titans didn’t make Houston good. Jacksonville was 4-1 and the Texans were missing their lead back. Under a field goal, take the better team.

4. Steelers -2.5 at Buccaneers. Pittsburgh had just beaten the Colts 34-22. Tampa Bay hadn’t covered in 13 straight games and might be without its starting quarterback again. The line was too short.

5. Giants +1.5 vs. Saints. The line opened with New York favored and flipped. The Giants were 3-1-1 and 4-1 against the spread, the Saints 1-4. Points at home with the better team is a gift.

The fade: Falcons +3.5 vs. Bears

The public loved Chicago again, but the Bears’ starting quarterback had missed three straight games and his backup threw two picks the week before. Laying more than a field goal on the road with a backup didn’t make sense to me.

The debut didn’t go my way: 2-4. That’s why it’s on the board.

Result: Week 6 went 2-4. NFL record: 2-4.
